Claire Cross and the Tomorrow is My Turn band will perform Into Light – a darkly-hued, evocative composition exploring the ideas of discover, carving light from darkness and the bravery of dreaming.

With swells of ambiguous textures interwoven with improvisation, Into Light is inspired by ambient chamber ensemble works with a jazz sensibility.

Tomorrow is My Turn is a leadership program that supports the career development of a Victorian female* jazz leader while championing diversity in leadership among middle-late secondary school students across Victoria.

In its first year, the program will be lead by bassist, teacher and mentor Claire Cross.
‘I’m thrilled to lead Tomorrow is My Turn with MIJF in its first year. As a performer and educator I really believe that young musicians need to see a place for themselves on the stage and in the music community – they need to see women leading bands, owning the stage, and setting the agenda.’

Claire is an exciting and versatile performer and a passionate advocate for women in music. She leads a number of exciting projects and ensembles and has graced the stage at festivals and venues all over the country. This year, she is heading back into the studio to work with Myles Mumford to create her second album, Moving
Targets.

Claire will perform with a hand selected band made up of professional musicians and students from the statewide tour, which will be followed by a Q&A with Claire.
